Under the direction of the Deputy Chief – EMS, this position is responsible for EMS personnel training, fire department personnel who hold EMS certifications, supporting documentation education, assisting with data analysis, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), and staying current with medical trends in prehospital care. This role ensures operational readiness through equipment and supply support, provides direct and indirect training for EMS personnel, and serves as a resource for clinical best practices.
This position can step up into the Shift Captain role, when necessary.
- Deliver direct training during new hire orientation and indirect training through Field Training Officers (FTOs).
- Provide instruction in continuing education and just-in-time training.
- Assist with new hire phase testing, as well as any protocol examinations.
- Support in-service training for new equipment, technology, and remedial education.
- Serve as the Training Center Coordinator for the AHA Community Training Center and maintain the CPR course schedule.
- Maintain the department’s State Continuing Education (CE) program, including licensing compliance and reporting requirements.
- Monitor EMS and Fire division personnel’s EMS-related certifications and maintain accurate records of all courses required for the service’s State license (i.e. Jurisprudence and Anaphylaxis).
- Coordinate with the QA Lieutenant to determine training needs identified in the QA/QI process.
- Support documentation training led by the QA Lieutenant and assist when needed.
- Collect and analyze operational and clinical data to identify training needs.
- Track KPIs such as response times, on-scene times, cardiac arrest survival rates, and other performance measures.
- Research emerging trends and innovations in prehospital medicine and integrate relevant practices into training programs.
- Assist in ensuring EMS operational and training documentation is complete and compliant.
- Answer phones professionally and direct inquiries appropriately.
- Perform duties of TDHS Paramedic.
- Valid Class C Driver’s License.
- TDHS EMT-P or LP.
- TDHS EMS Instructor
- Principles of adult education and EMS training delivery.
- 911 EMS protocols and patient care software programs.
- HIPAA compliance.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to analyze data and translate findings into training opportunities.
- Capability to work in all environmental conditions.
- Strong organizational skills for both paper and electronic records.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
