Overview
Seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Breast Medical Oncology team. The department aims to improve survival of breast cancer patients, advance knowledge through research, provide patient-centered clinical care, cancer prevention, education, and outreach with the goal of eliminating breast cancer. The schedule for this position is 7am-5pm and will be based at the League City Houston Area Location.
Responsibilities- Provide quality patient care in relation to the patient’s prescribed diagnosis, treatment, age group, development, and other identified needs.
- Conduct health assessments, including medical history, physical examination, and psychosocial assessment.
- Conduct inpatient daily rounds and report findings to the attending physician.
- Monitor and review laboratory, clinical, radiographic, and procedural data to develop appropriate plans of care.
- Prevent, minimize, and manage symptoms and toxicities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with physicians and other staff.
- Schedule consultations and diagnostic procedures; facilitate coordination with the attending physician.
- Write prescriptions (if eligible) as needed and provide triage in ambulatory settings for consistent patient care.
- Write or verify chemotherapy orders under supervision of a physician.
- Provide general health education to patients and their families.
- Participate in instruction of nursing students, professional nurses, and other health professionals.
- Stay current through continuing education relevant to the clinical area.
- Assist in development of educational materials for staff or patients.
- Attend departmental meetings related to the Advanced Practice Provider role.
- Contribute to departmental research efforts and accrual to protocols or trials.
- Collaborate with medical, nursing, and other disciplines regarding plan of care, follow-up, and evaluation.
- Recommend therapeutic measures for symptom relief and initiate or collaborate on research projects.
- Assist with implementation of registered departmental research protocols.
Required:
- APRN:
Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). May be waived for applicants recognized as an APRN by the Texas Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with the clinical practice area and patient population. - PA:
Master’s degree from an accredited PA program (ARC-PA); exceptions for PAs who graduated prior to 2013.
Preferred:
- At least 2 years of experience in an Advanced Practice Provider role.
- Oncology experience.
APRN (Required):
- All of the following:
Texas Board of Nursing authorization to practice as an APRN (or related APRN authority) consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. - Basic Life Support (BLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in Pediatric departments.
- May be required:
Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
PA (Required):
- PA certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
- May be required:
Eligible for limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. - Must meet BLS, ACLS, or PALS requirements as applicable to department (e.g., Pediatrics).
