Overview
The Camp Counselor shall maintain a leadership role among peer staff and campers in an active summer day camp environment. Provide supervision and care for children ages 5–15, ensuring their medical, physical, social, and emotional needs are appropriately addressed. Supervise and participate with the campers at all activity sites. Set an example for behavior and attitude for campers. Ensure a safe supportive environment for all staff and participants.
Serve as a liaison between group and camp administrative staff. Provide regular feedback to camp administrators to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of camp operations. This is a safety sensitive position and you must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen/physical and background investigation. Since this is a safety sensitive position, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.
- Leading and supporting campers as they participate in age-appropriate activities.
- Monitoring campers to ensure compliance with camp rules and prevent accidents.
- Cleaning, maintaining and ensuring proper use of camp facilities and equipment.
- Reporting and recording details of incidents, such as accidents or rule violations, to parents and camp staff.
- Working with other camp staff members to plan and coordinate camp activities daily.
- Responsible for the safety and well-being of campers.
- Assist in ensuring that all aspects of the daily schedule are followed appropriately and in a positive way (electives, special programs, daily events).
- Assist in the supervision of all camp field trips.
- Work cooperatively with Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director, Camp Counselors, maintenance staff, and parents.
- Maintains discipline with children during all activities under the guidelines of the handbook.
- Communicate with parents to relay important information.
- Follows all City of League City policies and procedures.
- Keeps the Assistant Camp Director appraised of situations requiring his/her attention.
- Attends trainings and meetings as required.
- Works hands on with small groups of children between the ages of 5-12 years old in a variety of activities.
- Works with Counselors-in-Training, ages 13-15, to provide them with guidance and support throughout their program.
- Uses problem solving skills to handle disagreements between campers.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
- At least 18 years or older
- Experience with kids 5-15 years old
- High level of responsibility and accountability
- Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor
- Ability to swim (This role involves work in and around water; therefore, candidates must be able to swim confidently. All staff will participate in water park field trips and swim days- in the water.)
- Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the City.
- PREFERRED:
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred
- Previous camp experience preferred
- Commit to the entire summer season
