In this position you will maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, and modify a variety of heavy-duty vehicles and mobile equipment which have utility systems or special hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems, features, or controls designed for such purposes as construction, combat, earth moving, firefighting, and comparable industrial or special applications.

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
• Must meet all certification requirements of the position.
• Must receive training on the handling and disposition of hazardous materials.
• May require certification for servicing and maintaining automotive air conditioning systems
• The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.

• Knowledge of heavy mobile equipment assembly, installation, and repair, i.e., bulldozers, road graders, power shovels, mobile cranes, heavy combat equipment, and missile transporters; and technical practices in order to repair/overhaul major systems, i.e., diesel, multi-fuel, and gasoline engines, automatic and manual transmissions, multi-gear assemblies, and a variety of positioning systems.
• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
• Skill in using measuring instruments and test equipment such as engine analyzers, dynamo meters, exhaust analyzers, vacuum and fuel pump testers, injector testers, ignition timers, tachometers, ammeters, and ohmmeters.
• Skill in troubleshooting mechanical problems, analyzing malfunctions, and determining the extent of repairs necessary.
• Ability to interpret instructions, technical manuals, illustrations, specifications, diagrams, schematics, and similar guides to make repairs and modifications.
• Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul, repair, and modify a variety of heavy mobile vehicles and equipment without more than normal supervision; and use and maintain hand and/or power tools and equipment required to do the work of heavy mobile equipment mechanic.
