Building Plans Examiner/Inspector (Plan Review Focus)
Location:
Utah (Remote, Hybrid, or In-Office Options Available)

Compensation: $55,000 – $95,000 DOE (Hourly or salaried; contract rates negotiable)
Responsibilities- We are seeking a qualified building code professional to perform plan reviews for residential and commercial construction projects in Utah.
- Ideal for an experienced ICC-certified inspector who is interested in plan review work, with opportunities to grow into or expand formal plans examiner certification.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of building codes, sound judgment, and the ability to clearly communicate code requirements to applicants, designers, and contractors.
- Perform plan reviews for residential and commercial projects in accordance with Utah State Amendments and applicable local ordinances.
- Review construction documents for code compliance, including life safety and means of egress, structural and general building requirements, and fire-resistance and occupancy classifications.
- Prepare professional, well-documented correction notices.
- Review resubmittals, revisions, and deferred submittals.
- Coordinate with building officials, inspectors, planners, engineers, and applicants.
- Provide code interpretation and technical assistance.
- Maintain accurate records within electronic permitting and plan review systems.
- Assist with Certificate of Occupancy reviews and project close-out as needed.
- ICC certification as a Building Inspector or Residential Inspector (examples include B1, B2, B5, R1, R2, or equivalent).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in building inspection, plan review, or closely related construction/code-compliance work.
- Strong working knowledge of Utah-adopted building codes and amendments.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- ICC Plans Examiner certification (Building or Residential).
- Experience with commercial and mixed-use projects.
- Familiarity with ADA / IBC Chapter 11 accessibility requirements.
- Experience working with Utah municipalities or third-party plan review providers.
- Experience with remote plan review workflows and electronic permitting systems.
- Adjusted based on employment type.
