Job Summary/Basic Function:
Tutor WSU students in writing skills and provide support for student writing needs at the Davis Learning Center as part of the Learning Support department. Tutoring is done on an individual appointment and/or drop‑in basis. Availability for appointments is determined by the tutor. We require and provide training in tutoring techniques.

** This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a WSU student in good academic standing.
  • Faculty recommendation or endorsement.
  • Strong writing proficiency.
  • Writing sample (See instructions in Notes to Applicant).
  • A working knowledge of or interest in learning key writing concepts.
  • Good listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Willingness to contribute beyond the basic tutoring requirements.
  • Have completed ENGL 1010 & 2010 or equivalent.
  • GPA 3.0 or higher.
Physical Activity of this position

Expressing or exchanging ideas. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately or quickly.

Ability to receive detailed information with or without assistance.

Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Physical Requirements of this position

Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or consistently to move objects, including the human body. Sitting most of the time. Walking and standing only occasionally if ever.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision. Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.

The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position. None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
