Shift Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 8am-5pm Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and serve food.
  • Responsible for overall daily kitchen functions.
  • Maintain food inventory.
  • Store food securely, orderly, and sanitarily.
  • Maintain sanitary, safe, and orderly kitchen and dining area.
  • Prepare, serve, and transport noon and evening meal on weekdays and weekends as directed.
  • Provide instruction/information to YCS Staff in food services.
  • Issue food and supplies necessary for YCS to prepare breakfast and weekend meals.
  • Provide sack lunches for CERC residents who travel out of town.
  • Assist YCS in meal preparation for outings.
  • Maintain required records/documentation for USDA food and Child Nutrition program.
  • Assist County Health Department and USDA food personnel on inspections.
  • Washing dishes, scrub pots and pans, cleaning oven, sweeping, mopping, lifting up to 25lbs and bending daily.
  • Trained on ordering food, supplies, billing and creating menus.
  • Responsible for completing the required minimum number of training hours per year (24 hours/full-time; 12 hours/part-time).
  • Other duties as required by program needs.

  • Understands and applies the agency policies and procedures (i.e. dress code and appearance, adherence to work schedules, completion of trainings, etc.).
  • Punctually attends meetings and trainings. Completes assigned trainings in adequate time frames and obtains the minimum number of training hours required within the calendar year.
  • Demonstrates dependability by consistently working scheduled shifts and following proper procedures when unable to work scheduled shifts.
  • Displays cultural competency by valuing the fundamental rights, dignity, and self-worth of all people including respecting age, culture, disability, ethnicity, race, religion/spirituality, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, socioeconomic status, or any basis proscribed by law.
  • Interacts with others in a professional manner and effectively navigate interpersonal differences. Maintains appropriate boundaries with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
  • Demonstrates the ability to consult or seek supervision regarding concerns or issues and communicates effectively with colleagues and clients.
  • Demonstrates understanding and implementation of food safety guidelines in the kitchen. Maintains a safe and organized kitchen and pantry.
  • Shows ability to create menus that satisfy the program requirements and appeal to the clients while remaining mindful regarding individual client’s allergies and dietary needs and restrictions.
  • Displays the ability to multi-task and completes cooking of meals in quantities and times outlined by program needs.

    This is an hourly position classified as eligible for overtime according to the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Marie Detty Youth and Family Services is an at-will employer. Employment is by mutual consent of the company and employee and either may terminate the relationship at any time, with or without cause or advance notice. This job is contingent upon funding;

    however, availability of funding is not a guarantee of continued employment, nor does it imply any specific terms of employment.

    Qualifications Requirements
  • Must be 21 years old.
  • Prefer experience in food services.
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma/GED with adequate education, training, and experience.

  • Demonstrate strong writing, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and telephone.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to physically restrain residents if necessary (training is provided).
  • Must pass FBI background investigation.
  • Ability to communicate with and advocate on behalf of residents.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Ability to assess situations, identify potential safety issues, and independently initiate safe interventions.
  • Must be able to attend mandatory trainings and monthly staff meetings as scheduled. The Cook is required to participate in and pass the written and physical skills test of Managing Aggressive Behavior (within 30 days) of employment. Also required to become certified (within 90 days) in CPR/First Aid.
  • Obtain food handlers permit.
  • Ability to prepare foods in a variety of healthy, nutritious ways.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
