The Registered Nurse (RN) – Psychiatric Pediatrics provides specialized nursing care to children and adolescents experiencing acute psychiatric conditions. This role requires advanced clinical skills, compassion, and the ability to respond effectively in high-stress situations. The RN collaborates with physicians, behavioral health professionals, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective, and therapeutic care tailored to the unique needs of pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for pediatric psychiatric patients.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
- Monitor patient conditions, recognize behavioral and clinical changes, and respond promptly to emergencies.
- Support patients and families through education, counseling, and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans.
- Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record system.
- Uphold infection control, patient safety, and quality standards.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and unit-based initiatives.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric nursing, with at least 1 year in pediatric settings.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders, therapeutic interventions, and pediatric care principles.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Prior experience in inpatient pediatric psychiatric units.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
