The Registered Nurse (RN) – Psychiatric Pediatrics provides specialized nursing care to children and adolescents experiencing acute psychiatric conditions. This role requires advanced clinical skills, compassion, and the ability to respond effectively in high-stress situations. The RN collaborates with physicians, behavioral health professionals, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, effective, and therapeutic care tailored to the unique needs of pediatric patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for pediatric psychiatric patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Monitor patient conditions, recognize behavioral and clinical changes, and respond promptly to emergencies.
  • Support patients and families through education, counseling, and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans.
  • Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record system.
  • Uphold infection control, patient safety, and quality standards.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and unit-based initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in psychiatric nursing, with at least 1 year in pediatric settings.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric disorders, therapeutic interventions, and pediatric care principles.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications (if any)
  • Prior experience in inpatient pediatric psychiatric units.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Certifications (if any)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
