Overview
Site Medical Director – Emergency Department, Southwestern Medical Center in Lawton, OK. The SMD provides care as an Emergency Physician within their scope of practice and is responsible for the oversight and management of the clinical and administrative aspects of the Emergency Department and provider care team(s) at client hospitals of IES and its subsidiaries. The role informs teams of policies, procedures, and objectives and aims to attain key performance indicators (KPIs) and key performance measures (KPMs).
The SMD interfaces with IES Corporate, Clinical, Operational, and Hospital leadership regarding service plan goals and assists in policy education and development, improving departmental efficiency, patient complaint and incident resolution, workforce management, and interdepartmental care coordination.
- Operational Oversight
:- Manage day-to-day operations of the provider care team(s).
- Ensure team(s) are aware of clinical and quality objectives.
- Provide medical oversight and ensure appropriate diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Conduct peer chart reviews at regular intervals (at least monthly) using pre-determined criteria.
- Identify and address clinical concerns and performance issues within the care team(s).
- Update relevant IES and Hospital staff on performance and results.
- Clinical Leadership
:- Supervise and mentor ED staff; act as a key liaison for the group.
- Educate and train teams on best clinical practices and thorough charting procedures.
- Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with hospital administration and department leaders to ensure safe, effective, and efficient continuity of patient care; participate on key committees as needed.
- Lead quality assurance initiatives to monitor and improve patient care outcomes.
- Workforce Management
:- Participate in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding processes.
- Ensure appropriate staffing coverage is maintained.
- Utilize staffing and financial resources efficiently.
- Evaluate performance and provide ongoing feedback related to quality of care delivery, care coordination, professionalism, and adherence to policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Clinical Responsibilities
:- Provide emergency medical care and determine disposition (admission or outpatient discharge with follow-up as needed).
- Treat a diverse patient population across demographics and insurance statuses.
- Perform physical exams and necessary procedures within guidelines.
- Order tests, diagnostics, and treatments; interpret lab tests, imaging, and ECGs as appropriate.
- Prescribe medications and therapies; administer vaccinations and inoculations as needed.
- Advise patients on disease prevention and refer to specialists as necessary.
- Accurately record patient information in electronic records per licensure standards.
- Attend required meetings and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with patient safety regulations (HIPAA).
- Perform other duties as assigned by IES and Hospital leadership.
