Job SummaryTo administer monitored anesthesia care (MAC) during a variety of procedures in a safe and professional manner.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Review the cases scheduled and assigned for the day and the types of anesthesia prescribed for each. Assemble supplies and equipment needed. Explain the procedure to each patient to secure cooperation and gain confidence. Assist in transporting patients to the operating room and recovery room as needed. Maintain records for each anesthetic administered.
- Pre‑induction check—adequate supplies, O₂ tanks, monitoring equipment, EKG/BP, pulse oximeter and capnometer. Make sure laryngoscope blades are functioning and that all equipment and supplies have not expired.
- Check chart for—correct scheduled procedure, correct surgeon, drug allergies, pre‑anesthetic evaluation, lab data (if applicable) and other reports, medical work‑up and consultations indicated.
- Maintain close communication with the MD and circulating nurse, as needed.
- Respect the confidentiality of the patient, center and physician related information. Maintain confidentiality of patient records and use complete discretion when discussing patient information.
- Assist with orientation/training of new personnel.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies.
- Assume personal responsibility for professional development.
- Other assigned duties as applicable.
Current RN license. Must have completed the 18‑24 month residency in nurse anesthesia above the RN requirements at an institution approved by the American Association or Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). Keep current BLS, ACLS, in‑services, nursing license including advanced practice and other required training. Recertification every 2 years.
