Responsibilities

The Registered Professional Nurse at Northside Hospital independently plans and provides professional nursing care to patients according to physician orders, established guidelines, and within the scope of practice defined by the Georgia Nurse Practice Act.

The American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Nursing:
Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice, 3rd Edition (2015)
defines nursing as:

"Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations."

The scope of practice for registered nurses, along with standards and competencies, depends on the nurse’s education, experience, role, and the population served (ANA, Scope and Standards of Practice, 2015, p 2). Northside Hospital’s Staff Registered Nurse positions follow a sequential progression from novice to expert, with job descriptions for levels RN I to RN VI indicating that an employee at a specific level possesses all the knowledge, skills, and competencies of the prior levels.


STAFF RN Resident I:

This position is part of the NSH Nursing Excellence Track (NEXT) Program. Level I staff registered nurses are competent and practice professional nursing across various clinical areas. The Staff RN Resident I actively participates in the Northside Hospital Nurse Residency Program.


Distinguishing characteristics:

Introduction to and mastery of policies, procedures, and guidelines with support from peers and colleagues.

Qualifications


REQUIRED

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school and licensed as an RN in Georgia, in good standing with no limitations.
  • Less than one year of experience as a registered professional nurse.
  • Certified in American Heart Association’s Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • Additional CPR certifications (ACLS, NRP, PALS, etc.) as required by the clinical unit.
  • Refer to specific clinical unit for additional education, competencies, or certifications required.


Unit-specific Requirements:

  • Bone Marrow Transplant & Critical Care: Obtain ACLS certification within one year.
  • Emergency Department: Maintain ACLS certification.
  • Gastro-Intestinal Lab: Maintain ACLS for moderate sedation procedures.
  • Neurosciences: Maintain ACLS;
    Critical Care and Basic Arrhythmia course preferred.
  • Special Care Nurseries: Certified as Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP).
  • Surgical Services: Operating Room experience or course preferred; PACU/ICU experience or course preferred.

All Areas: ACLS preferred.


PREFERRED

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
  • Other attributes are unit-specific; please refer to the specific clinical unit.
Work Hours:

8:00 am - 5:00 pm Weekend Requirements:
