This job is a part-time, non-benefited, FLSA non-exempt position in the Developmental Studies Department that reports to the Coordinator of Academic Support Labs. Working primarily at the Lawrenceville Campus.

Schedule: May work up to 19 hours a week depending on business needs and budget.

Minimum Qualifications (Job Code H1001)
Successful completion of at least 6 credit hours of college-level math courses. Interview and testing for subject competence are required. Ability to listen to students and focus their attention. Ability to explain complex math concepts. Excellent oral communication skills. Ability to form good working relationships with peers and students. Ability to work with diverse student backgrounds. Ability to coach study skills and behavior toward successful course completion.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and previous college-level tutoring experience and successful completion of at least 6 credit hours of college-level math courses with 3.0 or higher.



Job Description

Summary:

Under general supervision, Aid students in understanding math concepts introduced to them in the courses offered at Gwinnett Technical College.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provides oral and written reports as required.
  • Performs basic administrative/clerical tasks to support the daily operation of the computer lab.
  • Carefully listens to student(s) and offers encouragement and support. (25%)
  • Maintains a positive, warm attitude that encourages the student(s) to learn. (25%)
  • Informs appropriate staff about changes in meeting times.>
  • Establishes and maintains records/files relating to the program's mission (daily sign in logs, if necessary). Operates computers, copiers, and other office equipment; performs routine user preventive maintenance on office equipment. Initiates, composes and accurately types correspondence and administrative documents according to established guidelines.
  • Works when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected. (20%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College.
