The program described is federally funded TRIO Student Support Services (SSS). The position will coordinate programming and offer academic advising services to foster students academic success and personal development, with duties including retention, progression, and graduation support.
Position continuation is contingent upon meeting assigned goals and grant funding. Some evening and weekend hours are required.
Reporting to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), this Limited Term SSS Academic Specialist will work with campus stakeholders to support student success and engagement and to enhance academic, career, and personal development for SSS participants.
Responsibilities- Provide individualized academic advising to students on course selection, degree requirements, academic policies, and resources available for educational support; perform regular outreach to SSS student participants.
- Maintain timely and accurate records of student interactions and program participation.
- Make referrals to appropriate student support and campus resources.
- Assist participants with planning for postgraduate studies and/or employment.
- Coordinate the logistics of programs and activities aimed at enhancing SSS student participants’ success and engagement and to enhance participants academic, career, and personal development.
- Assist in planning special events such as award ceremonies, National TRIO Day, and other SSS activities.
- Implement marketing and advertising strategies to promote the SSS program using various channels, including social media, email campaigns, and campus events.
- Participate in campus events including, but not limited to, student success workshops, new student orientation, faculty training, welcome events, and preview days.
- Cultivate relationships with campus stakeholders to promote SSS participation in program activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: 4 Year / Bachelor s Degree required in education, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university
Experience: At least three years of relevant experience; at least three years of college academic advising experience; experience with Federal TRIO, GEAR UP, CAMP, HEP or other grant-funded student success programs; experience planning campus events for diverse student populations; experience with BANNER; experience with Blumen; experience with the financial aid process; bilingual is a plus.
Salary$42,100 - $50,500;
Salary offer will be dependent on candidate s experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.
- Abilities: Ability to engage and motivate SSS students, faculty, staff, and administration; work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks; communicate effectively with diverse constituencies; maintain confidentiality; work evenings and weekends.
- Knowledge: Working knowledge of higher education processes, administrative organization, and management; familiarity with advising practices, learning styles and barriers faced by low-income and first-generation SSS students; knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
- Skills: Proficiency in EAB Navigate, 25
LIVE; strong teamwork and communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of Degree Works, D2L, and BANNER; ability to prepare and deliver presentations; interpersonal relationship-building.
