Position: HVAC Technical Advisor / SME

HVAC Technical Advisor / SME
  • Basic Function
    :
    The candidate will provide expert-level technical analysis and advisory services based on a comprehensive operational knowledge of diverse HVAC systems. They must be able to diagnose and report on the performance of equipment, both as standalone units and as integrated components. This expertise must encompass primary cooling and heating plants like air‑cooled and water‑cooled chillers and various condensing and non‑condensing boilers;

    hydronic and pumping systems including four‑pipe and two‑pipe hydronic loops, as well as water‑sourced and geothermal heat pumps; direct expansion and refrigerant systems such as VRF, mini‑splits, multi‑splits, and packaged units; and terminal or air‑side units like Fan Coil Units, Variable Air Volume units, and cabinet heaters, and fossil fuel‑fired units.
Duties and Responsibilities for HVAC Technical Advisor / SME:
  • Identifies HVAC deficiencies and inadequacies, reports to Regional DPW Civilian (RFOS) and Dawson Building Automation team with repair and/or replacement recommendations in accordance with industry standards.
  • Utilizes building controls to monitor and make informed decisions and improvements to ensure reliability and stability of HVAC system.
  • Travel to sites to review building systems for potential improvements and upgrades.
  • Serves as subject matter expert for HVAC systems and implementation.
  • Emergency support for HVAC systems failure diagnostics. Field support of HVAC systems and support operations team as needed in an advisory capacity.
  • Inspect and test HVAC systems for overall performance in accordance with manufacturers specifications.
  • Obtains manufacturers specifications and preventative maintenance requirements for HVAC systems and components.
  • Maintain records of work performed.
  • Facilitate centralized management and monitoring of HVAC systems for streamlined operation.
  • Support the reliability and stability of HVAC equipment through integrated control and monitoring.
  • Advise in implementing responsive and adaptable control mechanisms.
  • Suggest enhancements to increase efficiency of HVAC systems through intelligent control strategies.
  • Assess and report on the compatibility of proposed systems with existing building automation systems and other integrated technologies.
  • Assist Dawson BAS technical staff with systems integration as needed and support monthly controls inspections.
Position Requirements and

Qualifications:
  • Completion of a recognized HVAC certification or diploma program with the required duties of the position and a minimum of 6-8 years of directly applicable commercial HVAC experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable NACi background investigation. Completion of fingerprinting, SF85 and OF301 forms are required.
  • Must have a valid state‑issued Driver’s license.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products and have the ability to use web‑enabled programs and use the internet for informational research.
  • Must be able to draft clear and comprehensible memos about facilities maintenance and repair related issues, as well as about recommendations for maintenance and repair changes, upgrades and improvements, use email, as well as develop and use spreadsheets.
