Sewer Maintenance Technician - Sewer Division

Duties: Performs semi-skilled manual work in the construction, operation and maintenance of either water and/or sewer systems including work on water gates, sewers, drains, mains, and connectors; cut, lays and caulks water, sewer or drain pipes using machine or hand tools to force sealing compound into joints to make them watertight; performs masonry duties in the construction of catch basins and other systems brickwork structures;

pumps water from trenches; digs, braces and backfills excavations for the purpose of locating pipe leaks or preparing areas for laying pipes; replaces worn and broken parts in the water and sewer systems.

Prepares ditches and excavations for laying pipes; lays glazed or unglazed clay, concrete or iron or other metal pipes; does pick and shovel work in smoothing bottom of trenches; receives pipe being lowered from above the trench and makes the connection with the pipeline; caulks the joints and seals all connections; taps water mains; may replace broken or leaking pipes and perform pipe maintenance tasks;

performs masonry and concrete work. Encompasses all work associated with sewer collection system operations and maintenance.

Qualifications

Duties require knowledge of water and sewer operations and mechanical ability, familiar with pumps, vacuum truck, and sewer rodding machine. Requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Water and/or sewer operator's license highly preferred.
