OverviewYour main responsibility is to enhance the quality of life for assisted living residents by advocating on their behalf. You will act as a link between residents, families, staff, and other stakeholders to resolve complaints and concerns.
Essential Functions- Advocate for residents in the assigned assisted living communities.
- Assess, resolve, and provide information and referral for concerns of residents, families, and the community received during facility visits.
- Complete visits to the assigned communities as directed, at a minimum monthly, with a goal to increase to a weekly basis unless otherwise authorized by the Assisted Living Specialist.
- When unable to visit due to a state‑of‑emergency, connect with residents and designated facility staff contact by alternative communications (phone, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype, etc.).
- Maintain open communication during visits with the assigned community contact person to resolve residents’ concerns brought forward during visits.
- Complete visit, case, and consultation reporting requirements within 48 hours of completion, contacting the Assisted Living Specialist with any questions or concerns.
- Identify and report issues that may affect the health, safety, welfare, or rights of residents, or any serious concern, including reports or observations of abuse, neglect, or mistreatment, immediately to the Assisted Living Specialist.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding residents and keep information within the Ombudsman Program and, with resident consent, to others only when appropriate.
- Notify the Assisted Living Specialist immediately of any conflicts of interest that may arise during volunteering.
- Complete a volunteer application process.
- Complete interview with Volunteer Programs Staff & Assisted Living Specialist.
- Complete and pass a CORI.
- Complete General Agency Volunteer Orientation.
- Complete at least one shadow visit with the Assisted Living Specialist prior to attending certification training.
- Successfully complete a certification training presented by the Massachusetts Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman.
- Attend scheduled monthly LTCOP Staff meetings; if unable to attend, schedule an individual meeting with the Assisted Living Specialist or designee.
- Complete re‑certification training every two years, regardless of when first certified.
- Complete 24 hours of continuing education per year.
- Participate in field supervision with the Assisted Living Specialist or their designee as required.
- Begin field training within two weeks of completing classroom training, including joint visits with the Assisted Living Specialist or designee; must be completed within 60 days of the final class.
- Have reliable transportation or access to it.
- Understand basic computer/technology skills, including web browser, Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype, etc.
- Have and be able to maintain excellent communication skills.
