As a lab manager, you will play a critical role in supporting the efficient operation of our biology laboratory. You will work in a highly dynamic research environment and will collaborate with scientists, IT, and facilities. This position will be onsite at our research facility in Lawrence, Kansas.
Key Responsibilities:Procurement, organization and inventory (50%)
- Accountable for procurement, storage, organization, and inventory of research consumables and reagents (e.g. cell culture media).
- Performs daily checks and upkeep of lab reagents, common stocks, freezers, and laboratory equipment (e.g. water baths and incubators).
- Maintains Cryotanks, cell bank inventory and coordinates/maintains proper cell line licensing.
- Maintain frozen sample inventory (e.g. Tumors, plasma) and coordinates freezer cleanout and sample organization.
- Order, monitor, and upkeep of liquid nitrogen and CO2 tanks.
- Collaborate with scientists to create and organize experimental protocols, laboratory documents, and scientific data.
- Coordinates with Contract Research Organization (CROs) regarding sample preparation and shipment.
- Manage service contracts and coordinate with vendors to schedule repairs, calibrations, and preventative maintenance.
- Collaborates with manager to coordinates equipment acquisition in adherence to allocated budget and timeline.
- Coordinate training schedules for laboratory equipment.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field and 5 years of experience (or equivalent) as a lab technician or lab management role is a must. Experience in a similar role in industry or academia is preferred.
- Proficiency with procurement, handling and storage of common biology lab equipment and tissue culture supplies is a must.
- Knowledge of lab safety and OSHA regulations and safety training.
- Exceptional organization skills, with a demonstrated ability to multi-task to enable many concurrent projects in a complex, fast paced environment.
- Ability to solve problems and work independently, passionate about organization and improving lab operations, highly motivated, and willing to take initiative.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability and willingness to work closely with other colleagues as a team, openness to new ideas.
