Overview
Job Purpose The staff pharmacist is responsible for providing patients with friendly, efficient, and timely delivery of pharmaceutical services. This position is part of the clinical team and will work closely with the director, providers, and other clinical staff to facilitate clinical pharmacy operations at Heartland Community Health Center.
Position details- Job title: Pharmacist
- Reports to: Pharmacy Manager
- Status: Exempt (Salaried $107,000 - $139,000)
- Interact face to face with public and staff- actively engaging and finding ways to assist patients in accessing medications
- Reviews prescriptions issued by providers to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed
- Responsible for accurately filling prescriptions issued by providers in a safe, efficient, and timely manner in accordance with all State and Federal laws
- Participates in Medication Therapy Management by reviewing patients’ medications and making clinical recommendations to providers based on current guidelines
- Provides medication counseling to patients
- Provides immunizations
- Provide direct supervision to pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns
- Provide clinical pharmacy services to patients, providers, and other clinical staff
- Operates cash register, handling cash and other tenders of payment such as vouchers, debit and credit cards and balancing registers
- Answers the telephone, responding to questions and requests
- Responsible for maintaining clinic medication orders
- Performs all duties, services, and documentation in full compliance with Heartland Community Health Center policies and procedures
- Maintains and applies knowledge of the 340B program, sliding fee scale, and referral prescriptions
- Assists the Director of Pharmacy with 340B program compliance, as necessary
- Prepares prescriptions for delivery or to be mailed, as needed
- Performs additional duties as assigned
- Previous FQHC/340B pharmacy experience preferred
- Must hold current Kansas Pharmacist’s License
- Maintain Continuing Education as required
- Customer service oriented; patient centered focus that promotes minimizing barriers to obtaining medications for patients
- Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient and employee base
- Demonstrate knowledge of the rationale of appropriate patient care
- Must be able to maintain good inter-personal relationship with co-workers and other members of the health care team and the organization
- Communicates through appropriate channels and uses proper chain of command for patient complaints
- Must be organized and able to manage/prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, adapts to change in a positive manner, able to work as a part of a team
- Computer skills to navigate Microsoft products, pharmacy management system and EHR software; eClinical
Works experience preferred - Organizational skills
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively
- Be courteous and respectful when interacting with patients and family members
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with organization’s policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements
- Good communication skills in speaking and in writing
- Must be able to work well with others in a close environment
- Knowledge of prior authorizations and billing prescription insurance
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to move; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Computer work is frequent
- Good lighting and comfortable temperature of ventilation at all times
- The employee is frequently required to work in close physical proximity to other people including staff, patients, and visitors
- Requires sufficient visual acuity to operate equipment common to this position
- Required to read, write and speak English
- Requires sufficient hearing level to be able to effectively communicate with people directly or by telephone
- Occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds
- Physically able to stand, sit, ambulate, has dexterity in hands
- Schedule:
Full-time, exempt - Scheduled to work during pharmacy operating hours: 8:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Fridays, and 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
- Hours and shifts will rotate with other pharmacists to ensure appropriate coverage during all operating hours.
- Schedule may be altered by supervisor(s) as needed to ensure coverage and completion of the essential duties of the position.
