Under the direction of the Academic Clinician, Nursing Research Lead and in collaboration with the Program Managers, and Professional Practice team, the Clinical Scholar provides dedicated leadership to support nursing practice and integration into the clinical area in collaboration with the appropriate clinical team. The Clinical Scholar Program beneficiaries may include new nursing graduates, internationally educated nurses (IENs), nurses who are upskilling and non-nurses (ie.
clinical externs and nursing students). The Clinical Scholar supports nurses in acquiring and maintaining nursing/clinical skills, knowledge and competencies reflective of current evidence-informed care for individuals admitted to specialized hospital services. The Clinical Scholar will promote and be a resource to nurses in their professional accountabilities and practices
- Current unrestricted registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum of five years recent registered nursing experience in frontline care in a hospital clinical setting
- Experience providing clinical education to staff and students, as Clinical Instructor, Academic Lecturer, Clinical Educator, Clinical Scholar or other equivalent formal teaching role where formal curriculum planning, lesson planning and learner evaluation involved
- Experience with Education Curriculum development
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Works in collaboration with the manager to support professional nursing competencies based on the College of Nurses of Ontario and best practice standards
- Serves as a formal resource by assisting nurses on unit to achieve their learning need's
- Provides support to program staff related to nursing practice and integration of skills in the clinical area in accordance with organizational and professional standards
- Works with new nursing graduates beginning their practice; IEN’s; and nurses looking to upskill
- Provides guidance including, but not limited to, new practices/skills, policies and procedures, scope of practice and equipment
- Specialized sub-acute Care in rehabilitation, mental health services, complex medical management and palliative care
