Child and Family Therapist at Heartland Community Health Center – Lawrence, KS
Join to apply for this role as part of a dedicated, people-centered team focused on providing exceptional care and service to patients in the community.
Duties and Responsibilities- Facilitate play therapy sessions with children to address emotional, developmental, and behavioral concerns using play as a primary communication and intervention tool.
- Document therapy sessions, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes in compliance with ethical standards and legal regulations.
- Provide guidance and support to children and families, educating them on the therapeutic process, coping strategies, and how to reinforce progress at home.
- Encourage proactive mental health and emotional well-being through regular sessions, developmental screenings, and educational resources.
- Address and validate emotional and psychological concerns, promoting understanding and strategies to manage challenges.
- Work closely with a team of professionals to provide integrated and holistic care for children.
- Advocate for mental health needs of children in the community and improve access to services for underserved populations.
- Record detailed notes on clients histories, play activities, and interventions, ensuring confidentiality and professional integrity.
- Promote practices and policies that enhance the mental and emotional well-being of children and contribute to community health improvement efforts.
- Be available for on-call coverage to address urgent needs or crises as necessary.
- Engage in professional development and quality assurance activities, including supervision, training, and participation in value-based care programs.
- Provide leadership and mentorship within the therapeutic team to support professional growth and best practices.
- Adhere to professional and legal standards, including HIPAA regulations, ensuring confidentiality of client information.
- LCPC, LCSCW, or LCMFT
- Valid license to practice in Kansas
- Active Basic Life Support Certification
- Valid Mental Health First Aid Certification (completed upon hire)
- Previous experience in a community health setting is preferred but not required
- Moves equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
- Moves throughout the building to meet with employees, patients, or visitors
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Frequent communication with patients about their experience at the health center
- Operate a computer and other office equipment (tablets, scanners, printers, phones)
- Adhere to process protocols and procedures
- Schedule:
Full-time non-exempt (hourly) - Hours:
Mon-Fri 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (as needed); average 32 clinic hours/week - Hours Saturday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM (if applicable)
