Job Overview
The Vice President of Finance & Administration serves as a vital member of the leadership team, partnering with the CEO and Board Finance Committee to drive financial sustainability and operational efficiency. This position holds overall strategic and operational responsibility for the organization's financial management, grant reporting, information technology, facilities, and transportation. The VP acts as a strategic thought-partner, implementing sophisticated policies and controls to support a high-growth, mission-driven environment.
This position balances high-level strategic planning with hands‑on management of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, and serves as a liaison to the Board's Finance Committee.
ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Financial Planning- Advise the CEO and Finance Committee on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and investment priorities.
- Lead the annual operating plan and budgeting process, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Develop and implement long‑range financial forecasts, modeling potential scenarios, and identifying revenue opportunities.
- Oversee all financial accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and grant management, ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit regulations.
- Maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to mitigate risk and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Coordinate the annual audit process and manage relationships with external auditors and tax vendors.
- Manage treasury functions, including cash management, banking relationships, and investment strategies.
- Act as a member database administrator in partnership with the Director of Operations and Director of Grants for reporting and other activities.
- Oversee, mentor, and direct reports, promoting a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure staff members receive appropriate training and professional development.
- Establish performance goals, conduct appraisals, and manage workload distribution within the finance department.
- Prepare and present accurate, timely financial reports (monthly/quarterly) to the site directors, leadership team, and Board of Directors.
- Monitor grant compliance, restricted funds, and donor‑advised funds to ensure proper stewardship.
- Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws (including IRS Form 990).
- Oversee compliance with grants and develop systems for reporting.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- 10+ years of progressive financial management experience, preferably with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics; MBA preferred. CPA or CMA highly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP/IFRS, financial reporting, and complex financial modeling.
- Expertise with ERP systems (e.g., Net Suite, SAP, Oracle) and financial planning tools. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a finance team.
- Strong communication, presentation, and strategic thinking skills.
- May sit for long periods of time
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
