Field/Service Technician, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Summary
The Wellfield Technician is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the landfill gas collection and control system that supplies biogas to the Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility. This position plays a key role in optimizing gas quality, ensuring environmental compliance, and supporting reliable RNG production. The technician performs field adjustments, collects and analyzes data, troubleshoots system issues, and assists with wellfield construction and expansion activities.
The ideal candidate has strong technical and mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
- Perform daily inspections of landfill gas collection and control system components, including wells, headers, laterals, condensate traps, and blowers.
- Balance and tune wellfield vacuum and flow rates to optimize gas quality and collection efficiency, ensuring consistent delivery of gas to RNG processing equipment.
- Accurately record field readings such as vacuum, flow, pressure, and methane content; enter data into CMMS or designated reporting systems for trend analysis and performance tracking.
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on wellheads, piping, valves, and instrumentation to ensure system reliability and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor and maintain condensate knockout pots, pumps, and drains to prevent system blockages or downtime.
- Follow all site safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies; participate in safety meetings and contribute to a culture of safe operations.
- Assist with installation of new wells, collection piping, and monitoring infrastructure as the landfill expands.
- Communicate regularly with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to report system performance, identify issues, and coordinate corrective actions.
- Assist with calibration and operation of field instruments such as gas analyzers, flow meters, and pressure gauges.
- Basic understanding of landfill gas systems, RNG processes, or industrial plant operations.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, meters, and technical drawings.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for field equipment and piping systems.
- Competence with handheld gas analyzers and field data collection tools.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to coordinate effectively with multiple departments.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and rough terrain.
- Experience using LoCi is preferred.
- Proficient with basic computer applications (Microsoft Excel, CMMS software, or data entry systems).
Field work will include work outside and exposed to the weather, high elevations, confined spaces, electrical components, both stationary and rotating equipment, gases and liquids that are compressed/pressurized, toxic, caustic, or acidic, and/or flammable, dust, exposure to high heat/cold weather, high winds, and high noise. Satisfactory performance of the essential duties of this job will require standing, kneeling, sitting, and walking as well as fine motor skills (especially of the hands) and the extended reach of arms. Climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and crawling will be required. Regular senses of smell, hearing, and sight are required. The capacity to occasionally lift up to 75 pounds is required.
Work EnvironmentThe duties of this job will include working both in an office environment and work outdoors in the weather year-round as well as inside industrial spaces with operating machinery. Exposure to high heat and high humidity as well as cold weather and high winds can be expected. This job also includes potential exposure to high noise, fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals, acids and caustic chemicals, flammable and/or poisonous atmospheres, hot surfaces/equipment, cold surfaces/equipment, high vibrations, confined spaces, elevated working surfaces, and vehicle traffic.
CompensationSalary is paid on a bi‑weekly basis and will be commensurate with the value and experience the candidate brings to the role. In addition to base salary, compensation includes the option to participate in company‑sponsored medical, dental, vision insurance plans and in a retirement savings program, paid personal time off and holidays. You will also be eligible for a monthly bonus and participation in the employee Long‑Term Incentive plan.
