Position Overview
This position is responsible for instructing a variety of fire service programs and courses offered by the Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute (KFRTI). They will serve as the lead instructor, assistant instructor, or safety officer (if qualified) to deliver KFRTI training programs. This position coordinates and collaborates with program coordinators and managers and reports to an assigned training program coordinator or manager.
Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute is a KU Lifelong and Professional Education (LPE) unit. The Institute was created in 1949 by the Kansas legislature with the mission to train and credential Kansas firefighters in local jurisdictions. The Institute serves fire departments and firefighters through a "traveling instruction service," providing hundreds of training and certification events each year in counties across the State.
The mission of the Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute is to provide accessible, comprehensive training and credentialing for fire and emergency response personnel to promote health and safety in Kansas communities.
Job Description 70% Instructor:- Serve as an instructor or safety officer (if qualified) for KFRTI programs and courses.
- Coordinate scheduled courses with the lead instructor to provide a safe learning environment for students.
- Work with the other instructors during multi-training program deliveries.
- Adhere to the KFRTI Instructional Methodology during course delivery activities.
- Manage safety and mitigate risk during training delivery.
- Represent KFRTI and KU in all functions of this job in a professional, respectful, and customer-friendly manner.
- Assist as an evaluator at KFRTI Certification Testing sites
- Drive Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute non-commercial vehicles and deliver non-commercial trailers and equipment.
- Must have a valid CDL to drive or transport commercial equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or their designee.
