Claims Pro LP, via its division BBCG Claim Services (a part of Claims Pro/Indemni Pro’s Specialty Risk Division (SRD)), is looking for a full‑time, highly experienced surety adjuster to join our growing team.
BBCG Claim Services specializes in the investigation and management of surety, crime, cyber and other niche financial lines claims. We are Canada’s largest team of independent loss adjusters dedicated to handling surety losses on behalf of surety and insurer clients. Our team is comprised of highly experienced individuals with backgrounds in finance, accounting and insurance, and we operate across the country with offices in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec.
Our successful candidate must have more than three years’ experience in surety or related fields such as construction law, engineering and/or project management, and have demonstrated the qualities outlined below.
- Superior skills in monitoring and managing construction contracts;
- Superior skills in conducting claims investigations;
- Superior ability to interpret surety bond wordings, complex coverage conditions and obligations;
- Exceptional ability to interpret complex contractual wordings and coverage conditions;
- Superior report‑writing ability and proven ability to analyze and present claim data to sureties/insurers in an organized and professional manner;
- Current working knowledge of relevant jurisprudence applicable to the surety industry;
- Up‑to‑date, practical knowledge of case law applicable to the surety and construction industries;
- Ability to oversee and direct consultants, lawyers, contractors, engineers and other experts to ensure timely and effective claim resolution;
- University degree or a combination of education and relevant experience;
- Adjuster’s license designation or working toward completion;
- Background in law or engineering would be an asset;
- A professional demeanor and ability to communicate clearly to all stakeholders in a formal group setting;
- Superior problem‑solving skills and the ability to formulate practical solutions to successfully resolve complex disputes;
- Licensed in jurisdictions inside and outside of home province;
- Experience with mediation/alternate dispute resolution, provision of evidence at discovery/trial, and provision of sworn statements on claim‑related matters;
- A strong work ethic and desire to deliver a superior work product;
- The ability to travel locally and abroad to attend site visits, projects and other in‑person meetings;
- Willingness to attend and participate in industry seminars and workshops;
- A desire to engage in professional development and continuing education/training with the aim of continuously improving the level of service provided to clients;
- Accounting and computation skills; working knowledge of financial statements and accounting records an asset;
- Strong computer skills to adapt to various IT environments; advanced knowledge of Excel and Word an asset;
- Extremely well‑honed organizational skills to prioritize day‑to‑day activities to allow efficient and effective progress of file‑management activities;
- Ability to develop and maintain strong business relationships with a wide spectrum of people;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Curiosity and eagerness to learn.
In addition to surety loss adjustment, BBCG also focuses on commercial losses in complex financial lines, including crime/fidelity, cyber, construction, wrap‑up liability, trade credit risk, professional liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, employment practices liability, and more.
