Mission
The junior lab technician will support our polymer analysis and characterization activities. Many of our polymer analysis instruments are part of the Molecular and Hybrid Materials Characterization Center (MHMC) ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) and the successful candidate will also be responsible for the daily operation of this Center.
Main Duties And Responsibilities- Responsible for the daily operation of the polymer characterization instrumentation at the Polymers Laboratory and the MHMC, which primarily includes gel permeation chromatography (GPC) as well as thermal analysis (DSC and TGA). This involves sample preparation, analysis and data interpretation.
- Supervision of all the analytical instrumentation of the Polymers Laboratory and the MHMC, including coordination of instrument maintenance and repair and user training.
- Advice and support users in solving polymer analysis and characterization problems.
- Participation in and support of teaching and outreach activities of the Polymers Laboratory.
- The suitable candidate is expected to have a technician degree or master degree in chemistry or a related field.
- Hands‑on mentality and an affinity for computers and technical equipment.
- Interest in and/or knowledge of polymer science and (hands‑on) experience with polymer characterization and in particular chromatographic methods (HPLC, GPC as well as thermal analysis) are important assets.
- The applicant should be rigorous, reliable, well organized and have the flexibility needed for working in a service‑oriented context.
- Good written and oral communication skills in English and French and ability to operate as a team player in a multi‑disciplinary environment are essential.
