Senior Backend and DevOps Engineer

Scholé AI is building the future of AI-native learning. We’re a recently founded venture-backed spinoff of EPFL’s Machine Learning for Education Lab and UC Berkeley. We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own and scale the backend systems powering Scholé’s personalized learning platform. This is a full-time on-site role based in Lausanne. You will design, build, and maintain the APIs, data pipelines, and services that enable adaptive lessons, analytics, and AI-driven personalization.

• Design, build, and maintain robust backend services using Django.
• Take ownership of cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and scalability.
• Collaborate closely with frontend engineers and AI engineers to ship new features.
• Ensure performance, reliability, security, and data integrity across the platform.

• 5+ years of experience in backend or full-stack engineering, with strong systems design experience.
• Strong experience with Django.
• Solid understanding of API design, relational databases, and backend architecture best practices.
• Experience working with cloud environments, and Docker (Azure experience is a plus).
• Experience with Dev Ops, CI/CD.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a small, fast-moving team.

• Experience working with data pipelines, analytics systems, or ML-adjacent infrastructure.
• Familiarity with AI or LLM-powered systems in production.
• Background in education technology or user-centric platforms.
• Knowledge of data privacy, security, and compliance considerations.
• Own and shape the backend foundations of an AI-native learning platform with a strong, ambitious team, and user growth.

90,000 – 100,000 CHF (depending on experience) + equity
