Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Battery Trader (Long‑Term Risk Management)

Lausanne - 100% | Permanent

Alpiq is expanding fast in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Europe—both our own assets and tolling/third‑party portfolios. We already operate and market battery flexibility (e.g., wholesale, FCR/aFRR) and are scaling further. We are recruiting a Battery Trader to own and manage the long‑term risks linked to BESS contracts and assets, stabilising cashflows while preserving some upside from flexibility. This role can be based in Lausanne or Olten, Switzerland.

Your

responsibilities
  • Own the long‑term BESS risk book: identify, quantify and manage structural risks arising from merchant revenues, ancillary services, degradation and contractual features (e.g., tolling floors/caps, indexation, availability regimes). Design and execute hedging strategies across European power markets (and cross‑commodity where relevant) to stabilise cashflows and protect downside while preserving upside from flexibility.
  • Support the pricing and structuring of long‑dated battery exposures.
  • Trade options/structures to manage optionality embedded in BESS operations and contracts.
  • Partner closely with Origination/BD, Intraday/Asset Trading, Analytics/Quants, Risk, Legal and IT/Algo to ensure pricing, booking and risk monitoring reflect reality end‑to‑end.
  • Contribute to model specifications, stress tests and risk governance; propose limits/KRIs and help refine P&L and exposure reporting for batteries.
  • Maintain market & regulatory awareness across European reserve/flexibility products (FCR/aFRR/tertiary), capacity mechanisms and balancing rules, and translate impacts into trading/hedging actions, in line with the other teams trading these products.
Your profile
  • 5+ years’ experience trading European energy (power/gas) with a demonstrable track record of risk management and P&L delivery.
  • Strong foundation in Financial Theory / Asset Pricing (e.g., stochastic processes, options/real‑options, term‑structure modeling).
  • Experience in Power Intraday markets and Ancillary Services.
  • Hands‑on battery pricing/trading exposure.
  • Commodity options / structured products trading experience.
  • Fluency in English; additional European languages a plus.
  • Availability to work onsite in Lausanne or Olten.
Your benefits
  • Competitive salary package
  • Market-oriented salary
  • Training and development
  • Diverse opportunities for career growth
  • Flexible work models
