Overview

Responsibilities
  • Provides advanced, professional casework for children
  • Conducts regular fieldwork (home visits, school visits) and contacts collateral sources to gather information
  • Ensure child safety, wellbeing, and permanency
  • Assesses service needs, makes referrals, and advocates for children and families
  • Manages caseload in timely manner
  • Completes required assessments, reports, service agreements, medical, and financial documentation
  • Documents all case activity accurately and on time; communicates safety concerns promptly to supervisors
  • Prepares reports for Permanency Planning Reviews, Child and Family Team Meetings, and court proceedings; testifies in juvenile court
  • Maintains workload documentation (case dictation, daysheets, travel reimbursement)
  • Meets all DHHS policy and timeframe standards
  • Provides periodic on-call coverage with 24/7 availability; responds to abuse, neglect, and dependency reports
  • Identifies risk and implements safety interventions during on-call duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including shelter duty
Typical Qualifications
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only)
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience
  • OR Master’s degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience
  • OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience

  • Scotland County offers a wide range of benefits, including healthcare, supplemental plans and retirement programs.
  • Health:
    We offer a high-deductible health plan with a $3300 deductible (Single). This program includes a Health Savings Account (HSA). Employee-only coverage is completely funded by the County, and the County contributes $1200 to the HSA annually.
  • Dental:
    The dental plan provides preventive services such as annual cleanings at 100%, a $25 deductible for other services, basic services paid at 80%, and major services at 50%. The County contributes $14.47 per month for employee coverage.
  • Voluntary Plans:
    Options include AFLAC Accident, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity plans;
    Met Life Group Cancer;
    Mass Mutual Whole Life;
    Superior Vision;
    Short-term and Long-term disability.
  • Life Insurance:
    The County provides $10,000 Basic Life insurance for employees. Additional voluntary term life is available.
  • Retirement:
    Pension through the NC Local Government Employees’ Retirement System with county and employee contributions. 401(k) and 457 plans are administered by Empower, with varying county contributions based on participation level and plan chosen.
  • Longevity Pay:
    Available to employees with at least 5 years of continuous service.
