The City of Laurel, MS is accepting applications for the position of Traffic Maintenance Technician, Parks & Recreation Department, Laurel, Mississippi.
Purpose of PositionMaintain all traffic signals, street signs, emergency vehicle equipment and emergency vehicle electrical wiring for the City of Laurel.
Major Duties and Responsibilities Install City traffic signals- Receive traffic signal from storage
- Determine appropriate location of traffic signal installation
- Ensure work area is safe for installation
- Install traffic signal utilizing appropriate equipment
- Install electrical wiring and ensure wiring safety
- Examine traffic signal for malfunction or potential malfunction
- Determine extent of malfunction
- Obtain appropriate supplies to repair malfunction
- Repair malfunction
- Perform preventive maintenance as needed or scheduled
- Receive work order, when required
- Obtain appropriate supplies
- Operate departmental equipment in order to install street sign
- Cut into concrete, as needed
- Ensure street sign is firmly planted
- Receive work order, when required
- Obtain appropriate supplies
- Determine extent of repair
- Repair street signs, as needed
- Cut into and/or replace concrete, as needed
- Complete work order paperwork when complete
- Request that new equipment be ordered, as needed
- Repair and maintain existing equipment
- Ensure departmental bucket truck is in proper working order
- Complete inventory paperwork
- Repair and maintain voltage controls
- Test equipment for compliance
- Install and repair departmental equipment, including blue lights, video equipment, sirens, safety cages, consoles, headlights, flashlights and radar guns
- Obtain appropriate painting and striping supplies
- Stripe streets and parking lots utilizing departmental equipment
- Allow paint to dry
- Ensure streets and parking lots are properly painted
- Block off appropriate streets
- Assist with traffic control
- Ensure parade routes are properly followed
- Assist with plumbing activities, as needed
- Assist with departmental floor maintenance, as needed
- Assist with departmental welding and cutting
Education and Experience
- Certification: A valid Mississippi driver's license is required for this position.
- Education:
A high school diploma or its equivalent is required for this position. - Experience:
1 year of experience in electronics or a related field is strongly recommended for this position.
Salary: $15.94 hourly / $33,148.96 annually
