This position is to enroll in and complete the training course Level 1 provided by Petsense, “Paragon,” in preparation for a career in grooming and/or bathing. Paragon is a virtual distant learning program with a 15-week curriculum covering fundamentals in bathing and grooming, safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling, dog anatomy and physiology, using hands-on practice, book work, online exams, videos, and photo-based practical submissions for grading.

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work scheduled shifts with the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends and overtime as needed.
• Support selling initiatives (TEAM) by: thank the customer, engage with the customer and/or pet, advise products or services, and make it memorable.
• Learn and perform a combination of duties throughout training, including but not limited to:
• Enroll and complete Paragon Level 1 (Groom Tech) within five weeks.
• Safe pet handling; bathing, drying, brushing and combing all coat types; nail trimming; ear cleaning; preparatory hair trimming; basic clipper and finishing techniques.
• Customer service skills; professionalism; equipment handling and maintenance; ensuring the safety and well-being of animals.
• Inspect animals for external signs of parasites, disease or injury and report findings to pet owners.
• Practice safety and sanitization protocols; sanitize and maintain grooming tools and equipment to prevent injury and disease spread.
• Assist in generating business by contacting existing and new customers, scheduling appointments, follow-up calls and reminders, and verifying vaccinations.
• Maintain records of pet clients, including services provided and vaccination records; operate computer as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Experience:
  
  Must be comfortable working with dogs and cats. Ability to demonstrate patience and compassion for animals. Must provide own tools (clippers, blades, shears) or be willing to purchase required tools.
• Education:
  
  High school diploma or equivalent required. Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered. Regardless of education level, individuals must be able to read, write and count accurately.

• Operate and use grooming tools and equipment including bathing tubs, brushes, combs, scissors, clippers, dryers, and bathing products.
• Communicate effectively with associates and customers.
• Demonstrate compassion for animals and attention to detail.
• Read, write and count accurately to complete documentation; problem solving skills; basic computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict.

• Typically indoors with moderate noise; exposure to sharp grooming instruments, perfumed shampoos and soaps, pets, and pet waste.
• Exposure to wet conditions when bathing dogs; exposure to cats and dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
• Shifts vary by store, generally not less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours.
• Adherence to safety training and guidelines; promote a safe and productive work environment.
• Indoor floors and outdoor lots are hard surfaces; lighting and temperature are adequate.

• Ability to move and transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand and maintain a stationary position for up to 8 hours while grooming.
• Ability to move around the salon for 4-8 hours per day; use grooming instruments; lift or reach overhead occasionally.
• Ability to read, write, and count accurately; strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Non-sedentary role requiring moving throughout the store and surrounding areas; operate all related equipment safely and effectively.
