* TITLE:

Quality Specialist
** PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE QUALITY SPECIALIST I
* Assist in the improvement of process and product Quality at Carpenter to increase First Time Through (FTT).
* Assist and provide input in the establishment of Critical to Quality measures (CTQ), Key Process Characteristics (KCC), Key Control Characteristics (KCC), control plans and FMEA.
* Increase customer satisfaction by reducing claims, remakes, scrap and deviations from standard work.
* Assist in Improving critical work center Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
* Effectively detect and refer quality issues to higher level Quality Specialist.
* Stabilize processes and refer to higher level Quality Specialist to implement statistical process controls (SPC) to establish and maintain process capability.
* Participate in inspection, measurement, and sampling method improvements (MSA).
* Provides input in developing robust processes as part of the New Product Introduction (NPI).
* Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned

REQUIRED FOR THE QUALITY SPECIALIST I
* Four-year college degree is preferred.  High School Diploma required.
* 0 to 2 years relevant quality experience.
* Have basic knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures in a function.
* Accountable for technical contribution to a project team or sub-team.  Works with others to achieve team goals within scope of basic knowledge and skills within own function.  Has no formal role in managing projects.
* Basic understanding of engineering principles, standards, methods, and practices.
* Knowledge of disciplined problem-solving methods.
* Use existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems; apply limited judgement and discretion.
* Respond to standard requests from internal and/or external customers.
* Work within guidelines and direction provided by others to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
* Problem solving skills include check sheet, Pareto diagram, cause-and-effect diagram, graphs, control charts, histogram, and scatter diagram.
* Apply continuous improvement methods, such as Practical Problem Solving (PPS), Six Sigma, Lean principles, and Error Proofing as a team participant.
* Ability to work with limited exercise of judgment under direct supervision of higher-level engineers or managers, operate a computer workstation in a production environment.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills, and design skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, well organized and the ability to prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
* Willing to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.
