Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Associate Industrial Engineer to support Continuous Improvement initiatives at our Lathrop Megafactory site. As a key member of the Industrial Engineering team, you'll work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment to drive innovation and excellence in our manufacturing operations. To succeed in this role, you'll need to thrive in a demanding environment where no two days are the same.

You'll need to be able to think critically and strategically, using data-driven insights to inform your decisions and drive process improvements. As an Associate Industrial Engineer, you'll play a critical role in sustaining, ramping, and improving our business-critical product lines.
You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including production, manufacturing process engineering, material flow engineering, supply chain, quality engineering, production planning and finance teams. Your goal will be to ensure operational excellence and drive the achievement of Tesla's objectives.
What You'll Do
* Apply Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, etc.) to eliminate waste and improve safety, quality, throughput, and cost to world-class manufacturing standards
* Assess, identify and improve current business system by applying theory of constraints and factory physics, identifying bottlenecks, process capacity, and leading data-driven decisions
* Define optimization tools, dashboards and models for scenarios (like inventory, throughput capacity, buffer management, job scheduling, etc.) and provide feedback to optimize site layouts for production, manufacturing process, material flow, and facilities
* Define and maintain PFEP, Kanban, Material flow, and Workstation layouts, for existing and new production lines
* Lead, educate and engage cross-functional teams in importance of continuous improvement culture and work class manufacturing processes through rapid improvement events (Kaizen) and operational excellence initiatives
* Develop discrete event simulations to model material and process flows, analyzing and optimizing workflows while solving problems collaboratively with cross-functional teams
* Collect and interpret production data (e.g. OEE, cycle times, defects, etc.), perform capacity analysis and time studies to identify factors impacting line throughput
* Work with cross-functional teams, engineers, operators, and managers to align improvement efforts with business goals, new product introductions, participate in root cause analysis and structure problem solving to address operational challenges
* Management and development of factory staffing models used to develop site level staffing plans
What You'll Bring
* Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Research, Engineering Management, or equivalent experience
* 0-3 years of relevant work experience or commensurate combinations of education, management, and engineering experience in process optimization or continuous improvement
* Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks
* Demonstrated ability to drive projects with diverse teams in a manufacturing environment and quantifying and solving ambiguous problems at a systems level
* Experience with any/all of the following: simulation modeling software (Flex Sim), data visualization software (Tableau), design software (Solid Works, AutoCAD), programming languages (SQL, Python, VBA)
* Experience with industry-standard problem-solving methodologies, Time/motion study analysis, Material flow systems, continuous improvement (6-Sigma techniques and Lean manufacturing), and change management
* Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Yellow Belt or Green Belt) preferred
