Description

Class A Driver III’s are a building block in our training model for new drivers. They take on the dual role of providing excellent customer service while also helping develop new employees at the branch.

A Class A Driver III is primarily responsible for driving a tractor-trailer combination truck with a capacity of at least 80,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). The driver is required to become Crane Certified within 6 months of hire. Drivers work both on the road and in the yard, helping to prepare equipment for rental orders. To maintain safety standards, drivers work as part of a team and must possess a team-oriented mindset to fulfill their role successfully.

Must be flexible and willing to drive available vehicles and help team members with labor responsibilities in both the yard and on job sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Continuing the training of new drivers at a branch and helping them perfect the foundation built during onboarding.
  • Complete training documentation throughout the new employees’ initial training period which can be an extended time period. Documentation and feedback must be both specific and constructive. This includes rating the employee on specific skills and providing ongoing feedback to help improve their abilities in the role.
  • Clearly and concisely provide written and verbal communication to those they train. Explain complex concepts to a new learner in a variety of ways that match the learning style of the trainee.
  • Perform pre-trip safety inspections every morning to ensure that their assigned tractor-trailer, and crane meets all safety requirements and also be able to demonstrate this process in a teachable manner for other drivers in the branch.
  • Remain paired with a new driver until they are able to safely operate and develop their skill set as a driver. This will require having patience for deliveries and pick-ups that may take more time to complete.
  • Safely drive from branch location to job sites and back. Kindly and courteously interact with all customers and co-workers.
  • Load and unload equipment on job sites and at branch locations. Utilize rigging techniques and crane to safely manipulate equipment.
  • Read, understand, and accurately complete their driver’s log, to make sure customer paperwork is signed and accounted for, and that the equipment that is delivered or retrieved is correct.
  • When not driving, prepare equipment for rent. Participate in tasks such as building and testing shoring equipment, cleaning and painting plates, keeping the overall branch and yard clean and safe (this is not an exhaustive list).
  • Maintain constant communication with branch to provide updates on route and delivery status. Be willing to take specific direction regarding the best route, completing tasks efficiently, and completing tasks without safety violations.
  • Take pictures of equipment upon delivery and pick-up. Note any damages on paperwork and communicate that information to the branch.
  • Frequently participate in on-line and in-person training which may include sitting at a desk or in a classroom for up to 8 hours to develop deep knowledge of core products and company culture.
  • All other duties as assigned.
