Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for the Program Coordinator for Aquatics, Campus Recreational Services, Student Affairs. This position provides operational leadership, management, and oversight for day‑to‑day operations for Campus Recreational Services' aquatics and facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Manage day‑to‑day aquatics operations to ensure compliance with department, facility, and university policy and procedures.
  • Supervise a graduate assistant, 20‑30 lifeguards, 10‑20 lifeguard instructors, and 10‑20 water safety instructors.
  • Directly hire, train, evaluate, and supervise student staff.
  • Assess, develop, and implement program and educational initiatives in the natatorium.
  • Provide first aid, CPR, and AED certification training; lifeguard, water safety, and lifeguard instructor training.
  • Handle budget management and equipment inventory.
  • Conduct strategic planning and assessment; perform administrative functions.
  • Observe and resolve risk management and safety issues and provide 24/7 emergency on‑call response within 30 minutes.
  • Participate in the development of comprehensive recreational services and guide the development of program initiatives for aquatics.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive calendar of aquatic recreational programs and assess student learning outcomes.
  • Conduct in‑service training, lifeguarding meetings, and provide professional leadership and oversight for staff, equipment, inventory, and policy/procedure protocols.
  • Coordinate staff management, payroll, certification record keeping, and facilitate aquatics programming such as swim lessons, aqua fitness, masters swim, learn‑to‑swim, and youth programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or CHEA.
  • Nine (9) months of undergraduate experience in collegiate recreation, athletics, or commercial/city recreation.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Instructor certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Current American Red Cross lifeguard certification, obtained before the start date.
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, applicants may qualify with four additional years of relevant experience or with an associate’s degree plus two additional years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge in aquatics, programming, facilities, assessment, and analysis.
  • Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, and Certified Pool Operator certifications.
  • Ability to assess student needs; aptitude for high levels of student contact.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment.
