Career Opportunity:
The city of Las Vegas Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs department invites applications for Senior Assistant.
May include, but not be limited to, assignments in:
Sports Fields, Gymnasiums, Fitness Rooms or Areas, Game Rooms, Racquetball Courts, Ball Rooms, Dance Rooms, Hallways, Gymnastics Rooms, Entrance Ways to Facilities, Parking Lots, Parks, Programming Rooms, Restrooms, Multipurpose Rooms.
This is an hourly, part-time position in the Senior Assistant series. This position is distinguished by the assigned duties. Scheduled hours are limited to 19 hours or less per week, with shifts varying based on program and facility needs. Hourly employees are limited to 1,560 hours of work in any 18-month period.
Supervision Received:Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory or management staff.
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and future openings, which may include part-time positions.
Selection Process:The selection process includes a review of applications, with only the most qualified participating in an interview. Final candidate selection will include a hiring interview if applicable. Employment offers are contingent upon passing a pre-employment drug test and background check. Some positions may require preliminary background checks.
Eligible applicants will be contacted via phone or email only if advancing to the interview stage. Unsuccessful applicants' applications will remain active for four months.
Essential Functions:- Assist the Site Leader with administrative responsibilities.
- May serve as the designated camp director in the absence of the Site Leader.
- Support the implementation of the camp program.
- Model enthusiasm, innovation, initiative, involvement, and motivation.
- Provide daily on-site program guidance, safety, and staff support.
- Direct leadership to campers and assist in weekly planning.
- Possess basic knowledge of recreational sports, playground games, and activities.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- First Aid/CPR and AED certifications are preferred but not required.
- One year of experience working with children in a group setting is preferred.
- Maintain physical agility to demonstrate and facilitate sports and recreational activities, move and maintain equipment, ensuring safety and security.
- Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- Pass a pre-employment hair drug test and background check.
- Experience working with people with disabilities is required when assigned to Adaptive Recreation programs.
- Bilingual skills are desirable.
