The city of Las Vegas Parks, Recreation Cultural Affairs department invites applications for Instructor (MSU) Municipal Sports Unit
. This is an hourly, entry-level, part-time position. Scheduled hours are limited to an average of 19 hours or fewer per week. Hourly employees are limited to 1,560 hours of work in any 18-month period.
Receives general supervision from full-time sports staff, site supervisors, or other designated supervisory personnel.
Selectiion ProcessThe selection process will include a review of applications, with only the most qualified candidates invited to participate in an interview. Final selection may include a second interview, reference checks, and successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
NOTE: Eligible applicants will be contacted by phone or email only if moving forward in the selection process. Applications remain active for four (4) months.
Essential Functions Youth Sports Operations- Assist with the setup, breakdown, and supervision of youth sports leagues and recreational events, including basketball, flag football, soccer, T-ball, and more.
- Serve as a sports official, coach, scorekeeper, timekeeper, or field/court monitor – depending on assignment.
- Demonstrate basic sport-specific skills, help facilitate drills, and organize games during leagues, practices, clinics, and special events.
- Support staffing needs for one-day or seasonal events, such as tournaments, skills camps, combines, or jamborees.
- Enforce safety protocols, monitor equipment usage, and promote sportsmanship.
- Greet parents, coaches, and participants while providing excellent customer service.
- Respond to inquiries about sports programs, schedules, and league rules.
- Assist with participant check-in, attendance, and general on-site communication.
- Distribute program information and promotional materials as needed.
- Ensure a safe environment by observing, documenting and reporting incidents, injuries, or inappropriate behavior to supervisory staff.
- Regularly inspect fields, courts, and equipment for safety issues and report concerns.
- Support youth and parent engagement by promoting positive conduct during all sports activities.
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Interest and experience in sports through playing, coaching, instructing, or officiating
- Ability to demonstrate and lead sports drills or games and assist with equipment setup
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be physically able to actively participate in recreation activities and work outdoors as needed
- Must be able to communicate clearly and follow safety protocols
- Basic computer skills preferred
- First Aid/CPR/AED certifications are preferred, but not required
- Cash handling skills and Spanish/English bilingual skills are desirable, but not required
