Career Opportunity
The city of Las Vegasis inviting applicants for Irrigation Systems Repairer. This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the installation, repair, maintenance and care of the city's irrigation and sprinkler systems.
Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives general supervision from the Park Maintenance Field Supervisor, and functional and technical supervision from the Irrigation Systems Crew Leader. May assist with the coordination and oversight of community work participants.
Examination ProcessA civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The examination for this recruitment will be a written examination, weighted 100%, and will be used to place candidates on the eligible list. The eligible list will remain in effect for a period of 6 months from the date of certification and may be extended for a period of up to 2 years.
Applicants who are selected for the written test will be notified by email after the Final date to receive applications.

Selection ProcessFinal candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable). Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete a background check, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. Some positions may require preliminary background checks. The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list for current and/or future openings which may include part-time or full-time positions.
EssentialFunctions
- Repair, install and maintain the city’s irrigation and sprinkler systems.
- Operate a variety of hand tools and equipment including trenchers, backhoes, wrenches and other equipment needed to maintain and repair sprinklers; maintain hand and power tools and assigned equipment.
- Program clocks for water systems; repair electric clocks and timers that can be repaired in the field; work with low voltage electrical wiring, plumbing, pipe fitting, and hydraulics.
- Participate in repairing spray and drip irrigation systems, such as replacing emitters, risers and irrigation heads and drip supply lines.
- Maintain stock and supplies on trucks; perform minor maintenance and upkeep of vehicles including cleaning and checking oil and tires.
- Identify and troubleshoot problem areas; repair as needed.
- Read and understand blueprints to locate water mains.
- Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
- Assist in setting up and taking down traffic warning devices and barricades for traffic control associated with landscape and irrigation maintenance or installation activities.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner or refer to higher level staff.
- Maintain a variety of manual logs, records and files; perform a variety of record keeping, filing and other general clerical work.
- Respond to emergency situations as required.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
One year of experience performing semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of irrigation and sprinkler systems.
TrainingFormal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Licenses and CertificationsPossession of valid, appropriate driver’s license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter.
Within 15 days of initial hire, provide documentation of completion within the last five years of an OSHA-10 course in construction industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention, developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor.…
