Overview

The University Of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 (Night shop) in Facilities Management (R0150178).

Responsibilities

Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 performs a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades to repair, construct, and maintain buildings, grounds and equipment. Duties include maintaining, repairing, and modifying a variety of mechanical equipment and machinery, including natural gas– and diesel-fueled generators. Determine cause and extent of failures through test drives, pressure/temperature checks, visual inspections, diagnostic equipment, and manuals/diagrams.

Diagnose malfunctions, identify replacement parts, and order components.

Maintain and repair electrical and wiring systems; repair or replace generators and alternators; test and replace batteries; correct faulty fuses and wiring in emergency circuits; replace ignition components; service starters; install or replace wiring, connectors, switches, motors, and lamps.

Perform preventive and predictive generator maintenance; maintain records; prepare verbal and written reports; estimate costs and prepare budgets; contact contractors and vendors for bids. Identify deficiencies and malfunctions within mechanical systems and repair to safe operating condition.

Respond to after-hours facilities maintenance emergencies; perform journey-level work in building trades including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, roofing, automatic doors, windows and locks as required.

This position works 4-10 hour shifts Monday through Thursday, 1:30pm to 12:00am.

Education and licensing requirements include a valid Nevada class C driver’s license at appointment and throughout employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of progressively responsible experience under supervision of journey-level tradespersons in two or more major building or mechanical trades, including repair/maintenance activities, work planning, and material ordering; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A valid Nevada class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in electrical systems, automatic transfer switches and emergency power systems, and plumbing
  • Nevada Fire F or G card.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary:
Grade 30, Step 1, $54,267.12. Initial appointments typically begin at Step 1 as defined by NAC 284.170.
