Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Mountain Region is currently seeking a Biologist for our Environmental Services Group based out of either Elko, Reno, or Las Vegas, Nevada, or Salt Lake City, Utah (Elko preferred). The successful candidate will work in a team environment and will be responsible for field surveys/data collection related to natural resources (e.g., wildlife, springs, vegetation). The right candidate will be focused on and have a technical background in one or more of the following fields: wildlife biology, botany, or general biology with a focus on natural resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • The position is largely field-based and will require overnight travel (~80% during the field season) with frequent multi‑night stays.
  • It will entail individual, paired, and team field assignments.
  • Interacting and communicating effectively with multi‑disciplinary teams, including project/task managers and field team leads.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Ability to identify common wildlife and plant species in the Great Basin / Mountain West (Nevada, Utah).
  • Experience working safely in remote areas throughout Nevada and Utah.
  • Experience with ESRI Field Maps and various wildlife and botany data collection protocols is a plus.
  • Make sound decisions and apply a high degree of integrity to data collection.
  • Ability to manage risks conduct work safely and in an organized manner.
  • Eager to learn and be part of a local team of resource specialists supporting clients in renewables, transmission, mining, and other industries.
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science Degree with 1–5 years of relevant experience.

Compensation will be based in part on the applicability of degree work and relevant experience. Past experience with field team leadership and/or task management as a biologist in consulting will factor into compensation and responsibilities/opportunities (candidate dependent). Experience in the field of natural resources consulting is preferred but not required.

Experience working with wildlife, plants, habitats and/or aquatic resources in the field.

The position will be primarily field-based and may occasionally require working with computers and working at a stationary desk for long periods of time. The successful candidate will be expected to reside within a reasonable commuting distance to one of our offices or current project locations.

Pay and Benefits Summary

Pay ranges are provided where required by law. Compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. Certain roles are bonus eligible.
