Thrill Sports is seeking a strategic and proactive Director of Communications to lead public relations and external communications across the Thrill Sports properties – Power Slap, Nitro Circus, and Street League Skateboarding (SLS).
As Director of Communications at Thrill Sports, you will operate in a fast‑paced environment, serving as a key liaison between internal teams, media, partners and talent. You’ll oversee PR strategy, manage relationships and lead communication initiatives that elevate our entertainment brands on a global scale.
In addition to any other duties assigned by your manager, you will be expected to perform the following duties in your role with Thrill Sports:
Essential Functions- Develop and execute comprehensive PR and communications strategies that align with business and key initiatives.
- Lead proactive media outreach, securing high‑impact coverage across sports, entertainment, lifestyle, and mainstream outlets.
- Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, media alerts, talking points, statements, and other external communications.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with marketing, social, partnerships, legal, and events teams to ensure consistent messaging.
- Oversee communications support for live events, including onsite media relations, press credentialing and interviews.
- Develop and pitch creative story angles tied to athletes, events, brand initiatives, and cultural moments.
- Monitor media coverage, sentiment, and industry trends; provide regular reporting and insights to leadership.
- Manage external PR agencies, freelancers, or consultants as needed.
- Travel to event locations and represent Thrill Sports onsite with media and partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five to seven (5–7) years of experience in public relations, communications, or media relations, preferably in sports, entertainment, or lifestyle brands.
- Proven track record of securing earned media coverage and managing high‑profile press opportunities.
- Experience working with official brands, leagues, teams, athletes, or large‑scale events is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; confident working with executives, talent, and media.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑moving environment.
- Willingness to travel and work non‑traditional hours around live events.
Note: Occasional travel, and ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
