Burner Operator –

Typical daily duties include all burning operations including gathering material, processing work orders, and routine machine maintenance. Burners will also assist ware housemen with performing any combination of duties and tasks to support the receiving, storing, processing, packaging, and distribution of steel products.
Physical RequirementsWalk (Move, Traverse), use hand/fingers to handle or feel (operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, position), climb (stairs/ladders) or balance (ascend/descend, work atop, traverse), stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl (position self, move). Talk/listen (communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, exchange information). See (detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, assess). Pushing or pulling, reaching, repetitive motion.
Medium work – exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, to 20 pounds of force frequently, or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Perform any of the following tasks to process and distribute material, tools, and equipment.
- Coordinate with supervisor regarding work order specifications.
- Prepare, burn, and package material per work order instructions.
- Move, gather, package, or distribute material.
- Gather material by hand, forklift, or crane, and use strapping tools to band product together for shipment.
- Mark material with identifying information or attach identifying tags or labels.
- Clean work areas, machines, and equipment using a broom, shovel, rags, vacuum, and cleaning compounds.
- Make simple adjustments and repairs to machine such as replacing slats, tips, etc.
- Complete daily safety inspections on cranes and forklifts close to the burn table.
- All additional tasks assigned by supervisor and/or manager.
Required Skills:
Understanding of PPC's quality policy and objectives, ability to read and interpret documents, safety policies and procedures, ability to read measuring instruments (calipers, tape measure, square, protractor), knowledge of proper tooling setup and other tools used on machine, ability to use manufacturing software.
- Identify material types, sizes and grades.
- Operate overhead crane.
- Rigging; magnets, slings & clamps.
- Correctly complete paperwork.
- Follow control plan and inspections.
- Understand heat number traceability.
- Set up and operate machine correctly.
- Read drawings.
