Insurance Cost Recovery Subject Matter Expert at Tetra Tech Inc. Duties include analyzing data and supporting review of insurance data for duplication of benefits, reviewing statements of loss or estimating insurance proceeds based on policy. Individuals in this position are expected to work independently with minimal supervision, support operations in a fast‑paced environment, make independent decisions regarding grant guidance and insurance policy provisions, understand and interpret federal grant eligibility and activities, and perform business‑related research to support client needs.
The candidate will work within a team to produce analysis, formulation, development, and delivery of materials and results.
- Review insurance documentation and disaster relief work to determine duplication of benefits caused by disaster assistance.
- Review property owner claims of expenditures for eligibility under insurance policies.
- Work with property owners and insurers to identify eligible insurance proceeds relative to government‑sponsored post‑disaster assistance.
- Create, review, and file accurate project work records to meet applicant needs and due‑auditing requirements.
- Assist in creating and maintaining processes and procedures.
- Perform data analysis, data entry, data reconciliation, and digital file organization.
- Maintain knowledge of grant programs to interact with applicants, federal agency representatives, peers, and project managers.
- Optimize procedures and maintain communication and focus.
- Respond promptly to managers, supporting implementation of projects and organizational efforts to ensure timely, cost‑effective delivery of high‑quality products.
- Bachelor’s degree (or 5+ years related work experience) with working knowledge of federal grant programs, especially FEMA/FHWA, including statutes, regulations, policies and processes. Additional industry experience may substitute for a degree.
- Active Insurance Adjuster License in the State of California.
- Advanced knowledge of insurance coverage for residential, commercial, and auto policies.
- Experience in financial analysis.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Prior FEMA insurance experience heavily preferred.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office (strong Excel skills) and ability to learn project‑specific computer systems such as SharePoint, Access, and proprietary systems.
