The IT Infrastructure Disaster Recovery Engineer is a technical expert responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of disaster recovery strategies across the organization's IT Infrastructure. This role ensures the resilience and recoverability of all systems by developing robust disaster recovery solutions, conducting regular risk assessments, leading failover testing exercises, and aligning recovery processes with business continuity objectives. The individual will ensure all configurations, systems, and data on the disaster recovery site are synchronized with the primary site, providing seamless failover.
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a proactive approach to safeguarding IT services against disruption. This position requires collaboration across infrastructure, application, security, and business teams to ensure recovery capabilities are resilient, compliant, and effective.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensure the Disaster Recovery (DR) site is operational, properly configured, and always ready for failover.
- Review, verify, and maintain the configurations of the DR site to ensure it matches the primary production site, including networking, servers, applications, and databases.
- Oversee and manage data replication processes to ensure that backups are accurate, timely, and secure, and validate consistency between the DR site and primary site.
- Work closely with teams responsible for maintaining the DR site and ensure alignment with best practices, SLAs, and company policies.
- Implement automation for disaster recovery tasks and ensure effective monitoring systems are in place to detect any discrepancies between the DR site and the primary environment.
- Plan, conduct, and document regular disaster recovery tests and drills to verify recovery procedures and effectiveness.
- Provide immediate support for incident response in the event of a disaster, ensuring minimal downtime and business continuity.
- Educate teams about DR best practices, policies, and procedures, ensuring company-wide awareness and readiness.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and diagrams.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in infrastructure engineering.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to peers.
- BS Degree and or equivalent work experience in a technical discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering or related field.
- Proven experience in conducting, leading, and planning Disaster Recovery exercises including performing business impact analysis & risk assessments.
- Expert-level knowledge of DR tools and platforms, including backup software, & replication technologies.
- Strong experience understanding enterprise infrastructure including networking, storage, virtualization, containerization, and cloud.
- Ability to design, document, and maintain Disaster Recovery runbooks & recovery procedures.
- Strong scripting skills and experience with enterprise level automation & orchestration platforms
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis in high-pressure scenarios.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with both technical teams and business.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and follow up to ensure achievement of deadlines, outcomes, and results.
