Position Summary

The IT Data Specialist is responsible for transforming raw operational and legal data into actionable business intelligence for the firm. Working within a Snowflake data platform and Power BI reporting environment, this role designs, builds, and maintains dashboards, visualizations, and ad-hoc reports that drive strategic decision-making across the firm. This individual will collaborate directly with Partners, Executives, Managers, and Attorneys to identify reporting needs, translate business questions into data models, and deliver clear, accurate visual outputs.

Beyond reporting, the role requires a working knowledge of applied statistics to conduct analyses such as A/B testing, regression, and trend analysis to help the firm evaluate operational strategies and optimize outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and data visualizations that serve firm leadership, attorneys, and operational staff.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries against the firm's Snowflake data warehouse to extract, transform, and model data for reporting purposes.
  • Collaborate with Partners, Executives, Managers, and Attorneys in regular meetings to gather requirements, define KPIs, and iterate on reporting deliverables.
  • Translate complex business questions into structured data analyses and present findings in a clear, non-technical manner to stakeholders.
  • Perform statistical analyses, including but not limited to: A/B testing, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and trend/forecasting analysis, to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain a standardized reporting framework, including naming conventions, data dictionaries, and documentation for all dashboards and data models.
  • Build and manage Power BI datasets, data flows, and scheduled refreshes within the Microsoft Power BI Service.
  • Work with the Filevine case management system's data as surfaced through Snowflake, understanding the underlying data schema and relationships.
  • Identify data quality issues, inconsistencies, or gaps and coordinate with the IT Manager to resolve them at the source.
  • Proactively recommend new metrics, reports, or analytical approaches that could benefit firm operations, case strategy, or financial performance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all firm, client, and case data in accordance with legal and ethical obligations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience building dashboards and reports in Power BI, including DAX and Power Query (M).
  • 2+ years of experience writing SQL, with proficiency in querying and transforming data in Snowflake or a comparable data warehouse.
  • Demonstrated understanding of applied statistics: hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, A/B testing, and regression analysis.
  • Ability to communicate data findings clearly to non-technical audiences, including senior leadership and attorneys.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Self‑directed work ethic suitable for a fully remote environment with minimal supervision.
  • Committed to maintaining integrity and confidentiality on behalf of clients and the Firm.
  • Efficiency in time management and maintaining deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Experience working in a law firm or legal services environment.
  • Familiarity with Filevine or similar legal case management platforms.
  • Experience with Python for statistical analysis or data manipulation.
  • Knowledge of data modeling concepts (star schema, dimensional modeling).
  • Experience administering Power BI work spaces, row‑level security, and deployment pipelines.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft 365/E5 ecosystem (SharePoint, Teams, Azure AD).
  • Experience with ETL/ELT processes or tools (dbt, Azure Data Factory, etc.).
