Geographic Information Systems Technician I/II
Join the Clark County Department of Aviation as a Geographic Information Systems Technician I/II at Harry Reid International Airport. This position supports the planning and operational needs of our airports by maintaining accurate spatial data, providing mapping solutions, and supporting utility mapping with the ESRI Utility Network model.
Responsibilities- Processes and digitizes data to enter information into the geographic information system.
- Creates and modifies data files by entering electronically converted data into an appropriate database system.
- Produces cadastral maps, plots, graphic simulation, and manuscript data for use by various county departments and local agencies.
- Reviews recorded documentation for right‑of‑way, zoning, and other county agency records to ensure validity of transfer or division of land.
- Performs manual and/or visual checks of preliminary data and final products to ensure quality control of all data entered into the system.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation of work performed; updates records as procedures are modified.
- Performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment required for data entry and output production; reports repair or maintenance needs.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service by suggesting improvements and actively participating as a team member.
- Attends training meetings and upgrades knowledge of GIS system use; applies and documents new techniques.
- May drive a personal or county vehicle or arrange appropriate transportation to attend‑ meetings; may drive a motor vehicle to validate road conditions.
Typical duties include interpreting construction drawings to update base drawings and ensuring those changes are accurately reflected in a centralized GIS. The role also involves collaborating with various airport divisions to create customized maps and spatial products tailored to their operational and planning requirements.
Education & Experience- Geographic Information Systems Technician I – Equivalent to completion of an Associate’s Degree or technical school with major coursework in drafting, pre‑engineering, computer science, geographic studies or a closely related field. Full‑time experience in digitizing data or working with GIS data may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Geographic Information Systems Technician II – In addition to the above, requires a minimum of one (1) year of full‑time technical experience in entering data and producing finished documents using a GIS.
Some positions may require a valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of appointment.
Pre‑Employment Requirements- Drug testing contingency.
- Residency requirement within Clark County with proof of compliance with Nevada registration and driver’s license laws.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; no H1B sponsorship.
- Background check, fingerprint‑based criminal history record check, and security badge eligibility as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration.
- Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program requirements for ten‑year employment, five‑year residency, and original identity documentation.
Salary:
Geographic Information Systems Technician I: $26.00 – $38.46 per hour;
Geographic Information Systems Technician II: $28.15 – $41.52 per hour.
This position is a training underfill; upon successful completion of the training program the candidate will be promoted to Geographic Information Systems Technician II.
