Geographic Information Systems Technician I/II

The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking a detail‑oriented and technically skilled Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician I/II to join our team in supporting the planning and operational needs of our airports. This role plays a vital part in maintaining accurate spatial data and providing mapping solutions that inform decision‑making across the airports. The primary responsibility is to support utility mapping by maintaining and updating utility features using the ESRI Utility Network model.

The position will also interpret construction drawings to update base drawings and ensure those changes are accurately reflected in a centralized GIS. Additionally, the technician will collaborate with various airport divisions to create customized maps and spatial products tailored to their unique operational and planning requirements.

Salary

Geographic Information Systems Technician I: $26.00 - $38.46 hourly

Geographic Information Systems Technician II: $28.15 - $41.52 hourly

Key Responsibilities
  • Processes and digitizes data to enter information into the geographic information system.
  • Creates and modifies data files by entering electronically converted data into appropriate database system.
  • Produces cadastral maps, plots, graphic simulation, and manuscript data for use by various County departments and local agencies.
  • Reviews recorded documentation for right‑of‑way, zoning and other county agencies and determines if valid transfer or division of land has been made; ensures compliance with all appropriate statutes and ordinances.
  • Makes manual and/or visual checks of preliminary data and final products to ensure quality control of all data entering the system.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation of work performed; updates such records as procedures are modified.
  • Makes adjustments and performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment required for data entry and output production; reports the need for maintenance or repair.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Attends training meetings and upgrades knowledge of GIS system use; applies and documents new techniques as they are implemented.
  • May drive a personal or County vehicle or be able to arrange for appropriate transportation to attend off‑site meetings.
  • Some positions may drive a motor vehicle in order to validate road conditions.
Qualifications

Education – Geographic Information Systems Technician I:
Equivalent to completion of an Associate’s Degree or technical school with major coursework in drafting, pre‑engineering, computer science, or geographic studies or a closely related field. Full‑time experience in digitizing data or working with GIS data may be substituted for the education on a year‑for‑year basis.
Geographic Information Systems Technician II – In addition to the above, a minimum of one (1) year of full‑time technical experience in entering data and producing finished documents using a GIS.

Licensing and Certification

Some positions may require a valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of appointment.

Background Check & Drug Testing

Employment is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint‑based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration. Employment is also contingent upon the results of a pre‑employment drug examination. All prospective hires must present two original government‑issued IDs upon acceptance of a job offer.
