Overview
The Sonographer II is responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to assess and diagnose various OBGYN/MFM conditions and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Ultrasound examinations include a variety of conditions ranging from routine OBGYN to high-risk obstetrical scans and include nuchal translucency, fetal anatomy survey, Doppler studies, biophysical profile, and endovaginal scans. Will work in a progressive, busy office and will scan outpatients and inpatients providing comprehensive collaboration with Maternal Fetal Medicine providers, Registered Nurses and OB/GYN Providers.
Provides clinical services according to specialized maternal fetal ultrasound practice standards to detect fetal anomalies and acts as a resource to students, nurses, fellows and other technologists to ensure the safety of patients. The sonographer is responsible for the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). Must be able to work independently and have a thorough knowledge of high-risk situations.

- Verify patient identification, review intake, and patient history for information pertinent to scheduled exam. Gather relevant information from the patient by asking questions and reviewing their medical records regarding the patient's health status and medical history.
- Explain the examination procedure to the patient and respond to patient questions and concerns. Refer specific diagnostic, treatment, or prognosis questions to the patient's physicians and consult appropriate medical personnel when necessary to optimize examination results.
- Perform indicated high-risk OB ultrasound exams. Evaluate sonograms to identify or rule out patient/fetus anomalies.
- Work in partnership with other healthcare professionals to provide the best care possible for all patients, maintaining an attitude of service and excellence.
- Generate ultrasound reports and document diagnostic and patient data in the appropriate record, according to established policies and procedures.
- Record diagnostic images and data for use by the interpreting physician in rendering a diagnosis and for archival purposes.
- Administer safe patient care practices according to hospital and department policies and procedures, to ensure patient safety. Demonstrate safety for patients, staff and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform equipment quality assessment procedures to determine that equipment operates at an acceptable performance level.
- Ensure the work site, exam rooms, and work areas are neat and safe for patients and staff.
- Participate in continuing education activities through professional societies and organizations to enhance knowledge, skills, and performance.
- Complete ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent department operations.
- Complete any duties and special assignments as requested.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Sonographer and/or Ultrasound Tech required, preferably in MFM.
- Degree or Certification from an accredited Sonography program required.
- ARDMS Certification in Obstetrics (OB) required.
- Fetal Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone Certification (FMF NT) required.
- Cervical Assessment Certification (CLEAR or from FMF) required.
