JOB SUMMARY:
Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of provider. Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, drape and position patients, hand equipment, supplies, and instruments to provider. Take vital signs, assist with treatments, maintain equipment, inventory supplies, EMR, patient scheduling, charge slips and routine patient instruction, and knowledge of CPR.
- Administer medical questionnaires directly to Clinic Staff, patients as well as visitors entering job sites
- Administer and interpret temperature using forehead, tympanic and/or oral thermometers according to manufacturer’s instructions and CDC guidance
- Report cases of positive and negative responses according to established protocols
- Communicate findings directly to the Leads as required
- Document findings and results of the Medical Screening
- Make changes in appointment type as needed based on findings and communicate changes clearly with patients
- Don and doff PPE as required within protocol for medical screening
- Patient relations; assure timeliness of services rendered to patients
- Inform patients of the provider who will render services
- Assist patients in understanding instructions for all ancillary services
- Listen to complaints from patients regarding services rendered
- Demonstrate adequate triage techniques in handling telephone calls and inquiries
- Manage electronic medical records: filing, recording telephone calls and prescription refill information
- Check floor stock and samples, discard expired medications, and re-order as needed
- Demonstrate knowledge in management of emergency situations
- Assist patient to room and maintain patient comfort
- Maintain availability to examining provider as needed
- Accurately perform visual testing and on-site testing
- File patients’ lab results, x-ray, EKG, scans and documents after doctor signs off
- Assist providers in medical examinations
- Collect specimens for laboratory processing
- Assist in minor surgery, positioning and draping patient, passing instruments
- Inventory, ordering, facility maintenance
- Screen telephone calls for referrals and take messages for providers
- Administer injections of scheduled drugs under provider supervision (intrademal, subcutaneous, or intramuscular) as verified by provider
- Compile and condense technical and statistical data for reports
- Update and maintain required logs
- Translate for provider and office staff as requested
- Assist in site reviews and audits
- Place prescriptions or refills under provider direction
- Perform related duties and maintain patient care areas
- Cleans community areas daily and after infectious exposure; inventory supplies daily
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Provide reproductive health counseling (Title X services)
- Participate in huddles with the MA team
- Prepare charts to ensure patient files are complete for day-of-appointment care
- Motivational interviewing
- Schedule appointments
- Register patient data in computer systems
- Send appropriate information to various departments and medical offices
- Know rules and procedures for requests for information and release of information
- Acquire appropriate signatures and ensure provider or manager is aware of requests
- Submit information per policy; report equipment or supply needs to Administrator; report malfunctioning equipment
- Maintain general office equipment and CPR carts
- Maintain computerized files of patients with updated contact information
- Conduct mailings to patients and recall calls
- Attend health fairs/events and assist in planning and execution
- Communicate effectively with event attendees and schedule appointments
- Collaborate with Management on collateral materials
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical Assistant Certificate
- Lab Assistant Certificate
- 2 years experience preferred
- CPR Certified
- Certification through AAMA preferred
