Responsibilities
  • The Registered Dietitian is responsible for the planning and implementation of the nutrition care of the patients in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards and regulations, clinical guidelines, and policies and procedures.
  • The dietitian, in collaboration with the Culinary Services Manager, ensures high quality nutrition care is provided to the patients through oral, enteral, and parenteral nutrition therapy.
  • Completes annual competency testing and maintains professional growth and development portfolio to maintain registration and licensure/certification.
  • Performs clinical duties within the defined scope of practice and in compliance with applicable regulations, company policies and evidenced based clinical guidelines.
  • Serves on committees as required; participates in developing and implementing policies and procedures related to nutrition care.
  • Conducts initial and reassessments on all patients admitted to the hospital and ensures proper documentation (assessments, care plans, education, discharge planning).
  • Prescribes nutrition therapy to meet estimated needs and monitors tolerance; provides ongoing reassessment to ensure optimal nutrition therapy.
  • Participates with interdisciplinary team meetings to develop, implement, and monitor the nutrition care plan; interviews patients and families to obtain diet history and preferences.
  • Advocates for patients, respects rights, and accommodates individual needs and cultural/religious preferences; involves patient/family in planning objectives and goals.
  • Delivers nutrition education individually and in classes to patients, families, staff, and community as appropriate; conducts meal rounds to ensure therapy meets patients’ needs.
  • Coordinates with culinary department to resolve patient concerns with diet or meal service.
Menu Management
  • Oversees the menu management process, ensuring all aspects of the menu flow are completed per policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and approves all patient menus and substitutions; reviews and approves all nutritional data posted in the café.
  • Oversees transcription of diet orders and ensures accuracy; ensures patient snack orders align with diet orders and are distributed timely.
  • Provides training on therapeutic diets, menu process, and food allergens; proficient in menu management software.
Quality Assurance / Performance Improvement
  • Participates in the hospital’s performance improvement program by collecting, analyzing, trending, and acting on data for key department indicators.
  • Contributes to annual QAPI department plan and quality assurance activities to ensure safe and accurate oral nutrition therapy from the culinary department.
  • Participates in the survey process and coordinates with other departments to develop corrective actions as needed; communicates issues and opportunities for improvement to supervisor.

  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and employee information; demonstrates guest relation’s skills with patients, physicians, visitors, and staff.
  • Works cooperatively as a team member and adheres to dress code and on-duty identification; completes annual health, safety, and education requirements.
