Overview
Clark County is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Public Services Specialist position. This position acts as the first public contact person for the callers and/or visitors to various County offices; provides factual information to the public regarding County functions and activities; performs a variety of basic office support/revenue related/operational duties.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human resources.
Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.
Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful selected candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.
Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.
Some positions may be Bond Funded. Bond Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of bond funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.
Some positions may be used to fill permanent-intermittent positions. The selected candidates will work a regular schedule of more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours in a workweek. They will be paid at the approved hourly rate for actual hours worked. The successful selected candidates will be eligible for benefits on a prorated basis based on hours worked in a pay period.
Some positions may be used to fill job share positions. Job Share positions are for two (2) employees performing in permanent positions of the same classification who share on specific job. Time worked will be 21 hours per week. Job share employees will be paid at their hourly rate for actual hours worked. Sick and vacation leave benefits will accrue on a prorated basis based on hours worked in a pay period.

Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of full-time demonstrated reception or telephone operations experience. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
All qualifying education and each experience must be clearly documented in the Education and Work Experience selections of the application.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
- Deals with visitors and callers who may have significant problems or require specialized services or in situations where relations are often confrontational or strained.
- Determines the nature of the visit or the problem and explains detailed policies, procedures and regulations related to the department to which assigned; disseminates, explains and receives applications and printed materials related to the function or program to which assigned.
- Answers the telephone for an office or offices; determines the nature of the call; directs callers to the proper person or takes messages.
- Interviews individuals to obtain basic information; may determine eligibility for specified programs following specific guidelines.
- Provides factual information regarding the functions, activities, policies and procedures of the department to which assigned.
- May log calls, assist in placing long-distance or other calls, or assist County or agency staff in using telephone equipment special applications.
- Makes a preliminary check to determine the cause of telephone malfunctions; notifies the proper repair staff or service.
